Folk-inspired cousins Husky Gawenda and Gideon Preiss have been writing songs and touring the world together since 2011. Sweet, gentle harmonies resonate through Husky’s two albums, reflecting inspiration from their hometown Melbourne and touring Europe and the U.S.

Husky's live shows are crafted to take audiences on a journey through their captivating songs. This has earned the Melbourne based band critical praise for their "lush...warm and evocative" (Sydney Morning Herald) and "outstanding" (Beat Magazine) performances.

Opening for Husky is 18 year-old West Australian Teischa Jones, who is beginning to command attention across the globe with her gripping songwriting, natural gift for instrumentation and powerfully rich vocals.

Hannah Gadsby

Hannah Gadsby is an award-winning Australian comedian who thinks quickly and moves slowly. She is sardonic, laconic and, after numerous bone crunching accidents, bionic. Her droll delivery, delightful wordplay and heart-breakingly funny, self-deprecating observations have delighted audiences all over the world.

Hannah has performed to sold out houses at comedy festivals across Australia, accepted an invitation to perform at the exclusive Kilkenny Comedy Festival, the prestigious Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival and appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe and New Zealand Comedy Festivals. In 2013, Hannah’s solo show Happiness is a Bedside Table was nominated for Best Show in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Determined to make use of her Art History degree for the purposes of debt recovery, Hannah has written and presented three art documentaries for ABC TV, and takes every opportunity to present her incredibly popular comedic art lectures at festivals around the world.

In celebration of Portrait Month at the Gallery, Hannah takes a close look at a selection of works from the State Art Collection and gives us her take on what makes an artwork an artwork.

Peter Garrett

peter garrett & THE ALTER EGOS

After nearly 15 years, Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett will be performing songs from his first ever solo album “A Version of Now” with his band The Alter Egos. It takes the listener on a candid remembrance trail; the tone both stridently distinctive and unexpectedly tender, as one of the greatest frontmen in Australian rock reflects on his motives, his losses and gains and finds his resolve – surprise — utterly unbowed.

This is Peter Garrett as you've never heard him. Songs of love, songs of home and sweet memories chafe against songs of relentless resistance with, as ever, a steely eye on a better future.

With special guest Abbe May
