New York comes to life through the lenses of the world’s most influential photographers10 December 2012 |
The Art Gallery of Western Australia has said goodbye to its world-class show Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters, the highly successful launch exhibition of the exclusive series from The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Over 100,000 visitors viewed the exquisite selection of more than 120 modern art works, making it the Gallery’s most successful exhibition since Egyptian Antiquities from the Louvre in 2007.

Collection in focusMADE TO remember16 November 2012 |
AGWA is delighted to announce Made to Remember, the next instalment of Collection in focus – a series of rotating displays drawn from the State Art Collection. Each display provides an in-depth exploration of a distinct area within the Collection. Made to Remember, which opens on 24 November, is a beautifully considered display of significant Indigenous objects from the State Art Collection selected by Clotilde Bullen, Curator of Indigenous Art at the Art Gallery of WA. With a diverse selection of works including glass and ceramic objects, textiles and clothing, as well as examples of traditional sculpture, Made to Remember encourages dialogue about the place of an object not only in Indigenous art and culture, but in the broader Australian context.

| The Art Gallery of Western Australia is proud to partner with Wesfarmers Arts to present Luminous World – Contemporary Art from the Wesfarmers Collection.
Luminous World presents a diverse selection of contemporary paintings, photography and works of sculpture, acquired by the Wesfarmers Collection over thirty years and considered through the lens of how contemporary artists variously explore the phenomenon of light in their work. This is a unique opportunity for visitors to AGWA to view an innovative thematic selection of more than 60 contemporary works from the Wesfarmers Collection and for Wesfarmers to share one of its great assets with the public across Australia. Some 50 artists from Australia and New Zealand are featured in the exhibition including: Susan Norrie, Rosemary Laing, Howard Taylor, Dale Frank, Paddy Bedford, Bill Henson, Fiona Pardington (NZ), Brian Blanchflower, Brook Andrew, Timothy Cook and Nyapanyapa Yunupingu. |

The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) and the West Australian Music Industry Association Inc (WAM) today announced their new collaboration, which will combine the music of local WA bands with the global art of Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters, in the second series of AGWA Nights. Continuing on from the success of the jazz themed nights in Season One, AGWA Nights Season Two returns from September to November, with an exciting line-up of talented local bands including Diger Rockwell & Felicity Groom, Taal Naan, and the Joe Black Trio. |

The Art Gallery of Western Australia is searching for WA’s best Bright Young AGWA Guides. AGWA, in partnership with the 2012 AWESOME Festival, is launching a competition to find six lucky young people to be tour guides at the Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters exhibition during the AWESOME Festival in October. Children will have to explain in 100 words or less why they would like to be a tour guide for Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters. The lucky six who are selected will participate in a workshop with an AGWA Educator, where they will learn all about the fourteen Modern Masters in the exhibition and pick up some guiding techniques from our very experienced Gallery Guides. |

The heart of New York culture has finally arrived, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is opening its doors to showcase the much anticipated Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters from New York’s prestigious Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). An exclusive collaboration between AGWA and MoMA, Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters is the first in a series of six world-class exhibitions coming to Perth over the next three years and is on display at AGWA from 16 June to 3 December, 2012. |
