Prize Details and Judging Process
The Tom Malone Prize (TMP) is an acquisitive award, with the year’s winning work becoming part of the Art Gallery of Western Australia's (AGWA) Collection. The winning work will be chosen as the stand-out work of the year’s field, and, as such, be a significant addition to the glass and contemporary art collections at AGWA.
As this is a Contemporary Glass Art Prize the works submitted will reflect current or leading trends in the Glass Art Movement. Creative, conceptual and technical risk-taking, are encouraged, as much as the incremental shifts in established or traditional practices.
The judges encourage all levels of artists to apply, and strongly advise that no artist holds back.
From the entries, the Gallery will make a shortlist of ten or more works from supplied images. Shortlisted works will be freighted to AGWA for consideration by the judging panel.
Shortlisted applicants will be notified by Friday 20 November 2020 to organise transport of work to the Gallery for judging. Freighting will happen from December 2020 – February 2021.
Applicants not shortlisted will be informed by email by 4 December 2020.
The final judging and announcement at AGWA will occur in March 2021; the date to be advised.
Australian glass artists are eligible to apply and works must be made in the 12 months leading up to the cut-off for submissions.
