AGWA Modern

AGWA Modern presents works from 1920 to 1969.

Current display They will see us waving from such great heights

The new display features modernist collection highlights produced by artists from Australia and England between 1920 and 1966, with one work from 2013. Though there is a similarity of feel that reflects the Gallery’s earlier connections to English traditions, the display also shows much variety of approach; artists like Paul Nash and Adrian Feint combine elements of surrealism with landscape to create heightened, unsettling experiences; others, like Freda Robertshaw and Arthur Murch, look back to Classicism to give their works a modern solidity that holds ground against change.
