The AGWA Foundation invites you to join us for The Art of Giving Well – an inspiring afternoon exploring thoughtful philanthropy and the impact of giving. Bringing together philanthropic leaders, supporters and community members, the event offers insights into purposeful giving and the role philanthropy plays in shaping vibrant cultural communities.

Event Program

The event begins at 3.00pm with a private Gallery tour led by AGWA Board Chair Janet Holmes à Court and CEO Colin Walker, followed by afternoon tea in the AGWA Centenary Galleries.

The formal program will feature insights from leading voices in philanthropy and structured giving, including Wendy Scott-Hamilton (JBWere) on giving trends in Western Australia, a national outlook from John McLeod (JBWere) via video presentation, and a panel discussion featuring Western Australian philanthropy specialists (see list below).

The afternoon will conclude with refreshments on the AGWA Rooftop and the opportunity to connect with fellow patrons and art lovers in a relaxed and inspiring setting.

Speakers

Wendy Scott-Hamilton

Executive Director, Family Advisory & Philanthropic Services, JBWere

Wendy joined the Philanthropic Services team in 2018 and works closely with purpose-led clients to provide specialist advice in investment governance, responsible investing, and strategic alignment. Before joining JBWere, Wendy worked internationally in Hong Kong, Jersey (Channel Islands) and the Middle East, advising high-net-worth individuals on their wealth structuring and legacy requirements. She has volunteered extensively throughout South-East Asia, is a Director of the Lyn Beazley Academy and currently volunteers for Impact100 WA and a Private Ancillary Fund.

John McLeod

Senior Research Consultant, Family Advisory & Philanthropic Services, JBWere

John McLeod co-founded JBWere Philanthropic Services in 2001. With a background as a financial analyst and manager, he produces leading research on trends in the for-purpose and philanthropy sectors. He compiles the Philanthropy 50 for the Australian Financial Review and leads research on corporate community investment published in Boss magazine. John is also a Board Director of Liverty Housing and recently completed 9 years on the Board of Philanthropy Australia. John has also run his own family PAF since 2004.

Kate Bowditch

Partnerships & Development, Australian Philanthropic Services

Kate Bowditch is head of Partnerships & Development at Australian Philanthropic Services, where she provides philanthropic advice and support to individuals, families and corporates in conjunction with their professional advisers. She is passionate about growing giving in Australia and is an expert in giving structures which she believes are key to growing a culture of giving. Kate joined APS in 2018 and returned from Sydney to her hometown Perth in 2024. She previously held roles in financial services and private wealth with leading financial institutions, specialising in investments, superannuation and estate planning.

Ollie Hanson

Director Engagement (WA), Philanthropy Australia

Ollie Hanson leads Philanthropy Australia’s engagement in Western Australia and South Australia and brings more than 15 years’ experience across major gift fundraising, international grant making and corporate sustainability. He is deeply committed to First Nations self-determination and played a key role in establishing the Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity program, supporting Indigenous-led social change across Australia, Aotearoa and the Pacific.

Jamie Blair

Partner, Hamilton Locke

Jamie Blair advises families, business owners, and fiduciaries, including trustees and executors, on the legal aspects of structuring, protecting, and transitioning wealth across generations. His practice sits at the intersection of estate planning, succession, and conflict management, with a strong focus on complex asset structures, family enterprises, and wealth preservation strategies. He has expertise in intergenerational asset protection, succession planning for agribusinesses, high-value estates, and contentious estate matters. Jamie works closely with executors, trustees, and families to navigate estate administration, manage disputes, and translate legal complexity into practical outcomes that balance both commercial considerations and family harmony.

Paul Chamberlain

AGWA Foundation Chair

Paul Chamberlain is a philanthropist and investor who has a strong interest in the arts and is a passionate collector, mainly of work by street artists. Originally from the UK, Paul is an entrepreneur who, in his 30-plus years in Australia, has worked in the property, investing and automotive industries. He is on the board of several not-for-profit organisations and was the Chairman of FORM for several years. He was also instrumental in the development of the collective giving initiative, Impact100 WA and ArtsImpact WA.
