WA Focus celebrates Western Australian art presenting works from the 1920s to today.
The history of Western Australian art is made up of many different, and often conflicting stories. This display highlights some of these, as it brings together works from 1920 to the present by WA Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists. Combined, they demonstrate the shifting approaches to art-making as it intersects with the changing culture, politics and environment that make up this place.
Finding solace in the Gallery spaces
As Australia and the world continue to grapple with the effects of COVID-19, the AGWA Curators have selected works from the Collection that serve as touch points into the things we’ve missed during this global pandemic.
Works by artists including Willy Lenski, Friendswithyou, Joep Van Lieshout, Robyn O’Neil and Emma Buswell invite you to reflect on life: its ambiguities, cycles, warmth and connection. We invite you to come along on a journey through the Contemporary and WA Focus galleries on your next visit, and we hope you find solace in our spaces.
